I
have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Russian born designer
Olia Zavozina on several projects. Her custom special occasion
pieces are of the highest caliber of design and quality, particularly
her incredible bridal gowns. We are lucky to have such amazing
talent here in Nashville. If you’re looking for custom gowns:
bridal, bridesmaid, or something for a special event, it doesn’t
get any better than Olia.
Here, I’ve asked Olia to tell us a little more about her inspiration and her style.
SMK:
What is your first fashion-related memory?
OZ: As
early as I remember, I was spending a summer with my gradparents who
lived in the small village by the sea. I remember dresssing up like I
was going to a cocktail party and instead I was wearing the outfit to
walk the cows.
SMK: What or who inspires your work?
OZ: By
traveling and being a part of the global fashion world, I get
inspired by people, cultures, weather, moods, and sometimes even by
quiet early mornings of the city inspire me.
SMK: What makes your designs unique?
OZ: I
tend to think “outside of the box” plus having no fear of
combining the unrelatable or creating looks that noone ever thought
would go together gives me an advantage and makes my designs
unique. For example, ivory cotton lace over a Georgette
underlayer as a short tub dress could be worn to a summer cocktail
party or to a wedding on a beach.
SMK: What are some of your favorite things in your own
closet?
OZ: I love my pencil skirts and a couple of
form fitting longer blouses with thick belts. I wear it alot. I could
wear it to a meeting with a client or to go out.
SMK: How do you decide on the right style for the right
bride?
OZ: First, I have to learn more about the
bride’s personality, what she is like. Next, I help her to choose
her 2-3 style dresses that would be most flattering on her. Next
is selecting the right color and fabric of the dress depends which of
course will depend on the skin tone, the season of the
year the bride is getting married and on any fabric finishes the
bride loves.
